The moment you see the Honda CB 350 DLX parked on the street, it gets attention. Not the aggressive kind that sports bikes demand, but the quiet confidence of a bike that knows what it is. The round LED headlamp with chrome bezel is the standout feature — it gives an old-school look without being outdated. The teardrop-shaped fuel tank, chrome accents on the engine casing and exhaust, and the split two-piece seat come together to create something that feels genuinely premium for its price.

We tested the Mat Marshal Green Metallic variant around Kathmandu and got asked about the bike more times than we could count — outside Patan Durbar Square, at the Sanepa traffic light, at a petrol station in Balkhu. The finish quality on the paint is noticeably better than most bikes in this segment. Six months of monsoon and Kathmandu dust would be the real test, but early impressions are strong.

The build feels solid. Panels are well-fitted, there is no flex or rattle even on broken road surfaces like the stretches near Bagmati bridge or the unpaved section near Chunikhel. The chrome does not look cheap or thin — it has weight to it. Switches on the handlebar feel tactile and durable, not the hollow plastic feel you get on some budget bikes.

Frame is a diamond-type steel chassis which is Honda's proven construction for commuter and cruiser motorcycles. It keeps the weight distribution low and centered, which directly affects how the bike handles — more on that in the handling section.

One honest complaint on design: the exhaust tip, while looking great in photos, collects road dust and water stains faster than expected on Nepal's roads. It needs regular cleaning to keep looking its best. That is a minor issue but worth mentioning if you are buying the black or green color — it shows more on those.

Compared to the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 in the same price range, the CB 350 DLX feels lighter, more refined, and better assembled. The Meteor has more road presence and a heavier thump, but in terms of fit and finish, Honda wins clearly.

The 348.36cc single-cylinder fuel-injected engine does something that is rare in this segment — it is completely predictable. There are no sudden surges, no hesitation, no flat spots in the power delivery. Every twist of the throttle gives you exactly what you expect. For newer riders upgrading from a 150cc or 200cc bike, that predictability builds confidence fast.

Inside Kathmandu — daily commute testing:

We rode the CB 350 DLX for five consecutive weekdays on the Balkhu–Lalitpur–Tinkune route, covering roughly 25–35 km each day in typical Kathmandu traffic. The fuel injection system is tuned for low-speed urban riding. In bumper-to-bumper traffic near Kupondole or the Maitighar roundabout, the engine never felt stressed, never overheated noticeably, and the clutch action remained light enough that your left hand never got tired in slow-moving traffic.

Ring road test:

On Kathmandu's ring road, the CB 350 DLX sits most comfortably at 60–80 km/h in fourth and fifth gear. The engine feels relaxed at these speeds, producing just enough vibration through the handlebar to remind you it is a single-cylinder thumper — but not enough to numb your hands. Zero to 60 km/h happens quickly and confidently, which is all you really need for the ring road.

Balkhu to Hetauda — highway run:

This was the most revealing test. The 105 km route from Balkhu through Thankot, down the Tribhuvan Highway to Naubise, then Daman, Bhimphedi, and into Hetauda covers everything — city exit, steep mountain descent, valley road, and flat highway. The CB 350 DLX handled every section differently, and honestly, impressively.

On the steep descent from Naubise toward Bhimphedi, the slipper clutch combined with engine braking made the downhill sections feel controlled and safe. There was no need to ride the brakes constantly. The engine braking effect on the descent is smooth and progressive.

On the flat Hetauda stretch, we touched 115–120 km/h comfortably. The bike still had more to give — Honda claims 130 km/h top speed — but beyond 110 km/h, the wind resistance at an upright riding position becomes the limiting factor, not the engine. Crouching slightly behind the fuel tank reduced that noticeably.

Gearbox: The 5-speed manual gearbox with a 1-down-4-up pattern shifts cleanly. No false neutrals in our entire test period. Second-to-third and fourth-to-fifth shifts are the smoothest. First-to-second requires slightly more deliberate input, typical of most single-cylinder bikes.

Fuel injection at altitude: This matters more in Nepal than most countries. On the Daman section of the Hetauda run — sitting at around 2,300 metres above sea level — the fuel injection system adjusted automatically. No flat spots, no hesitation, no rich/lean running that older carbureted bikes struggle with at altitude. For Nepali riders who travel through hilly regions regularly, this is a genuine practical advantage.

At 187 kg kerb weight, the CB 350 DLX is not a lightweight bike. But it carries its weight well. The diamond frame keeps the centre of gravity low, which means the bike does not feel as heavy as it actually is when you are moving.

Low-speed handling — Kathmandu city:

Narrow lanes in Patan, sudden U-turns near Kalanki, three-point turns in Thamel's alleys — the CB 350 DLX handles all of this without drama. The 2.3 metre turning radius is genuinely tight for a 350cc bike. Riders coming from a 125cc commuter will feel the weight difference immediately, but within a few days of riding, it becomes second nature.

The 800 mm seat height suits riders between 5'5" and 6'2" most comfortably. Shorter riders (below 5'4") may find it slightly challenging to flat-foot on both sides, but the narrow seat towards the front helps with single-foot balancing at traffic lights. We had one team member at 5'3" ride it for a full day around Lalitpur — manageable but slightly tiring at slow speeds.

Highway handling:

At 80–100 km/h on the Kathmandu–Hetauda highway, the CB 350 DLX tracks straight without any weave or wander. The wide 100/90-19 front tyre provides stability and good steering response. The wheelbase of 1,441 mm contributes to this planted highway feel.

On curves — specifically the tight switchbacks between Naubise and Bhimphedi — the bike leans naturally and recovers cleanly. It does not require heavy countersteering input. The slipper clutch again helps when downshifting into corners.

Suspension:

Front telescopic forks absorb small bumps, road cracks, and broken patches well. The larger hits — deep potholes on the Balkhu–Kalanki stretch — are felt but not uncomfortable. Rear twin hydraulic shocks are set firm by default, which benefits highway stability but means urban potholes are transmitted to your lower back on longer rides. Riders who spend 90% of time in city traffic may wish for softer rear preload, though the rear adjuster allows some customization.

Pillion comfort:

We took a pillion passenger from Balkhu to Naubise and back. The split seat is genuinely comfortable for shorter pillion rides. The grabrail is solid and well-positioned. Beyond 2 hours with a pillion, the rear suspension firmness starts to show — breaks are recommended on long pillion trips.

Ergonomics:

Upright riding posture suits Nepal's mixed riding conditions perfectly. Wrists are relaxed, shoulders are not strained, and visibility is good for monitoring traffic ahead. Unlike sports bikes that put weight on your wrists, the CB 350 DLX lets you ride for hours without fatigue in the upper body.

Safety features on the CB 350 DLX are genuinely good for its price point. Dual-disc brakes with dual-channel ABS is the headline — and it works as advertised.

Front brake (310mm disc, dual-piston caliper):

Strong and progressive. Initial bite is confident without being aggressive. On the ring road at 80 km/h, emergency stops felt controlled and stable. ABS kicked in once during our testing — on a slightly wet road section near Balkhu bridge — and the intervention was smooth, not jerky. The bike slowed in a straight line without drama.

Rear brake (240mm disc):

Smooth and predictable. We used the rear brake more consciously on the downhill sections of the Hetauda route — combined with engine braking and front brake, it gave excellent control on steep descents.

Dual-channel ABS:

Operates on both wheels independently. This matters on Nepal's roads where you frequently encounter mixed surfaces — one wheel on tarmac, one on gravel or mud at road edges. Independent ABS on each wheel handles that better than single-channel systems. For riders upgrading from non-ABS bikes, the first week requires adjustment to trust the system, but after that it genuinely improves safety.

Suspension detailed notes:

Front fork travel is adequate for city roads. It handles speed breakers at moderate speed without bottoming out. On the broken road section near Baluwatar (post-monsoon road damage), the front forks absorbed the impacts well at city speeds.

Rear suspension is the area where Nepal-specific improvement would help. The fixed preload (no adjustment on basic trim) means town riders and highway riders cannot both be ideally served. The DLX variant does offer rear preload adjustment though — use it. Setting it slightly softer for city-heavy use makes a noticeable difference in comfort.

Breaking it down by riding condition:

The 15.2 litre fuel tank gives a real-world riding range of approximately 450–500 km on a full tank in mixed conditions. On the Hetauda run specifically, we covered 105 km and used just under 3.5 litres — roughly 30 km/l on that particular mixed-terrain route.

For a 350cc bike in Nepal, this is competitive mileage. The Royal Enfield Meteor 350 returns similar figures, sometimes slightly worse in pure city conditions. The Jawa Perak tends to return slightly less than both.

Tips to improve mileage on Nepal roads:

• Stay in fourth gear between 45–65 km/h in city riding where possible
• Avoid aggressive throttle from stops — the fuel injection rewards smooth acceleration

The CB 350 DLX is honest about what it is — a retro-styled cruiser that prioritises the riding experience over technology. Its feature list reflects that clearly.

Instrument cluster:

Semi-digital with an analog speedometer and digital display for trip meter, fuel gauge, and odometer. Visibility in direct Kathmandu sunlight is acceptable — the digital section is readable, the analog dial is clear. It does not have a tachometer, which some riders miss, but the engine character makes it easy to gauge revs by sound and feel.

Lighting:

Full LED — headlight, tail lamp, and turn indicators. The LED headlight throws a strong, wide beam on dark mountain roads. On the Naubise–Bhimphedi night sections of our test (we came back later than planned), the headlight illumination was noticeably better than older halogen-equipped bikes we have ridden on the same route.

USB charging port:

Positioned conveniently under the instrument cluster. Useful for charging your phone on the go — essential for riders using Google Maps on Nepal highways. The charging speed is adequate for maintaining charge while using navigation, not fast-charging from zero.

Slipper clutch:

Covered in the engine section, but worth listing here too as a feature. Not common on all 350cc bikes in this price range. It is a practical feature, not just a spec-sheet item.

What it does NOT have:

No Bluetooth connectivity, no turn-by-turn navigation, no riding modes, no quick-shifter, no traction control. For most Nepali riders using this bike daily, none of these absences are dealbreakers. But tech-focused buyers comparing this to bikes with TFT displays and connectivity should know upfront.

We used the CB 350 DLX as a primary daily commuter in Kathmandu for three weeks. Here is the honest practical assessment:

Positive daily experiences:

The bike starts instantly every morning — no warm-up time needed thanks to fuel injection. Even on a cold Kathmandu morning in the valley, it fires and is ready to ride within seconds.

Filtering through traffic near Thapathali or the Kalanki–Satdobato route is manageable. The bike is wider than a 150cc commuter but not as wide as some adventure bikes that genuinely struggle in tight Kathmandu traffic.

The 165 mm ground clearance handled every speed breaker on the ring road and the Lalitpur residential area roads without any scraping. Even the notoriously aggressive speed breakers near schools in Bhaktapur were cleared comfortably.

Fuel stops are infrequent thanks to the large tank. Going 4–5 days between fills during city commuting reduces the daily mental overhead of fuel management.

Honest limitations:

No under-seat storage is a real practical gap. You will need a tank bag or tail bag for any carrying beyond what fits in your jacket pocket. Riders who need to carry a laptop, shopping, or lunch regularly will feel this absence daily.

Parking in Kathmandu's crowded parking areas requires careful manoeuvring. 187 kg is manageable but demands respect on slopes — always engage the side stand on level ground before dismounting.

For very short riders (below 5'3"), daily low-speed manoeuvring in traffic can become tiring. Test ride before buying if you are in this height range.

Commuter verdict: For a rider doing 20–40 km daily in mixed Kathmandu conditions who also wants weekend highway capability, the CB 350 DLX is genuinely one of the best options in its price range. It does both jobs without compromise.

Honda's service network in Nepal is one of the strongest of any motorcycle brand. Authorised service centres are available across all major cities — Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan, Biratnagar, Butwal — making maintenance practical even for riders outside the valley.

Spare parts availability: Excellent in Kathmandu. Good in Pokhara and Chitwan. More limited in smaller cities, though parts can be ordered within 2–3 days from Kathmandu dealers. The CB 350 platform is now well-established in Nepal meaning parts availability will only improve over time.

Long-term reliability: The CB 350 engine platform has been in production long enough to establish a strong reliability record. No known widespread mechanical issues in the Nepal market. Riders with 30,000–50,000 km on their CB 350s report no major mechanical work beyond standard servicing.

This is one of the CB 350's strongest real-world advantages in Nepal. Used CB 350s in good condition sell at 75–80% of purchase price within 2 years. The Royal Enfield Meteor also holds value well, but Honda's brand reputation and lower maintenance costs keep the CB 350's resale demand consistently high. If you ride this bike for 2–3 years and decide to upgrade, you will recover a larger portion of your investment compared to most alternatives.

Who offers the best deal: Authorised Honda dealers. Avoid third-party negotiations that bypass authorised service entry. An unauthorised dealer may offer a small discount upfront but the warranty and service complications are not worth it.

It gives you a smooth, predictable, genuinely reliable 350cc engine in a package that looks great, handles well, and will start reliably every single morning for years.

The Hetauda run was the telling moment. On the descent from Daman — mountain roads, some gravel patches, altitude dropping from 2,300 metres to 300 metres in under 50 km — the CB 350 DLX was composed and confidence-inspiring throughout. Slipper clutch working quietly in the background, ABS standing by, fuel injection not missing a beat at any altitude. That kind of performance from a bike at this price range is not guaranteed. The CB 350 delivers it.

Buy the Honda CB 350 DLX if:

• You want a premium-feeling 350cc bike for daily Kathmandu commuting plus occasional highway trips
