The frame absorbed these hits without any flex or rattle in the body panels — a small but telling sign of build quality at this price point.

The alloy wheels on the BS6 top variant are a genuine upgrade over the spoke setup on cheaper rivals. They resist curb scrapes better, need less truing over time, and visually lift the bike slightly above its budget-commuter positioning. The two available colors — Black with Grey Graphics and Candy Red — are both practical choices for Kathmandu's dust and monsoon grime, though neither is particularly exciting.

Compared to the Honda Shine 125, the Splendor's panels feel a notch less refined — slightly thinner plastic on the side covers, switchgear that's functional but not as tight. It's not a complaint so much as a reminder that you're looking at a smaller, cheaper engine platform overall.

The 97.2cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine making 7.9 hp is, on paper, the smallest and least powerful in this comparison set — including against the Honda Shine 125's 10.59 hp. But raw numbers only tell part of the story for a bike built around one priority: efficiency.

Daily commute — Ring Road during peak hours:

We used Ring Road sections through Koteshwor, Gausala, and Chabahil during morning and evening rush as our primary city test. This is stop-start riding at its most relentless — first gear, second gear, brake, first gear again, repeat for 45 minutes.

The carbureted engine needs a few seconds longer to settle on cold mornings compared to the fuel-injected Shine, but once warm, throttle response in first and second gear is smooth and predictable. The wet multi-plate clutch stays light through extended traffic — your hand doesn't tire even after a long stretch of crawling.

Pulling away from a dead stop, the Splendor moves with quiet confidence rather than urgency. Overtaking slower traffic in second gear at 25–30 km/h requires patience — there isn't much of a power reserve to call on — but for the riding this bike is built for, it never feels strained.

Balkhu–Dakshinkali — rural and hill-road test:

This route, heading out past Balkhu toward Dakshinkali, mixes broken city-edge tarmac with steep, narrow village roads and gravel sections. It's a genuinely useful test for a commuter bike because it's exactly the kind of terrain riders outside the Ring Road deal with daily.

On the inclines toward Dakshinkali, the Splendor Plus held third gear comfortably on moderate slopes, dropping to second only on the steeper sections — at no point did the engine feel like it was being pushed past what it could give. Top speed of 87 km/h is purely theoretical for this kind of riding; the bike's comfort zone on this stretch was 40–55 km/h, and that's where it felt happiest.

4-speed gearbox:

The all-up shifting pattern is simple and familiar to anyone who has ridden a Hero before. Gear changes are light, if not razor-precise — there's a slightly longer throw between gears compared to the Shine's 5-speed unit, but nothing that causes hesitation once you're used to it.

This is where the Splendor Plus quietly does its best work. At 112 kg kerb weight and with a balanced, lightweight chassis, the bike is exceptionally easy to thread through Kathmandu traffic — tight gaps near Koteshwor, sudden lane shifts around buses, U-turns on narrow service lanes.

City handling:

The 18-inch alloy wheels (same size as the Shine's, larger than most 100cc rivals) help roll over broken patches and transitions between smooth and rough tarmac more smoothly than smaller-wheeled competitors. In dense traffic, the bike never feels like it's fighting you — it goes where you point it with minimal effort.

Balkhu–Dakshinkali — suspension test:

This is where the telescopic front forks and 5-step adjustable rear shocks earned their keep. On the rougher sections past Balkhu — speed breakers with no markings, sudden dips in the tarmac, loose gravel patches near Dakshinkali — the suspension soaked up the impacts without harsh feedback through the seat or handlebar. We didn't arrive feeling beaten up, which is a meaningful result for a budget commuter on this kind of terrain.

The adjustable rear preload is a small but useful inclusion — riders carrying a pillion regularly can firm up the rear slightly for better composure.

Ergonomics:

Seat height of 785mm and an upright, neutral riding posture suit the vast majority of rider heights common in Nepal. Shorter riders get confident flat-footing at stops, and the long single seat means the riding position doesn't change much whether solo or with a pillion.

Pillion comfort:

The long flat seat, grabrail, and proper footrests make pillion riding genuinely comfortable for short-to-medium trips — the kind of 20–30 minute rides typical of city use. Beyond an hour, as with most commuters in this segment, some numbness sets in.

Both wheels use drum brakes, backed by Hero's Integrated Braking System (IBS) — a mechanical linkage that distributes braking force between front and rear when either lever is applied.

Braking performance:

On Ring Road, where sudden stops for pedestrians, stray dogs, and cutting traffic are routine, the IBS setup performed predictably. It won't match the stopping power or feel of the Shine's front disc — there's noticeably more lever travel and less initial bite — but for the speeds this bike operates at (city traffic, rarely above 60 km/h), it's adequate.

On the Balkhu–Dakshinkali descent, where you're managing speed on loose gravel and uneven gradients, the drum setup required a bit more anticipation and earlier braking inputs compared to a disc-equipped bike. This is the clearest area where the Splendor Plus shows its budget positioning.

No ABS: Worth stating plainly — there is no ABS on this bike, and the segment is slowly moving toward it. For experienced riders this is a minor adjustment. For new riders, more conservative braking habits are advisable, especially in wet conditions.

Suspension in detail:

Telescopic front forks handled Ring Road speed breakers and potholes cleanly at city speeds. On the Dakshinkali route's steeper, rougher sections, the rear's 5-step adjustable hydraulic shocks kept the rear wheel composed without bottoming out — a pleasant surprise given the price point.

This is the Splendor Plus's reason for existing, and it delivers.

With an 11-litre tank and a 58–62 km/l average, the riding range works out to roughly 640–680 km per full tank — among the best in the segment, and noticeably ahead of the Honda Shine 125's ~570 km despite the Shine's larger tank, simply because the smaller Splendor engine sips less fuel per kilometre.

For a rider doing 30 km daily, that's close to three weeks between fuel stops.

Over a year of riding at 12,000 km and petrol at NPR 180/litre:

Halogen lighting: Headlight, tail light, and indicators are all halogen bulbs. On well-lit Ring Road sections this is fine. On unlit stretches near Dakshinkali after dark, the headlight throw is noticeably limited — riders doing rural evening commutes should factor this in.

Kick + electric start: Both available, and the kick-start backup remains genuinely useful — a dead battery doesn't mean you're stuck.

This is the section that matters most for anyone considering this bike as a working tool rather than a personal ride.

For Pathao and inDrive riders: the economics are straightforward. At 58–62 km/l, fuel cost per kilometre is among the lowest of any bike on Nepali roads.
