Visually, the LR XT is nearly identical to the higher trim — same facelifted bumper, same projector LED headlamps with DRLs, same overall silhouette. The most visible difference is the absence of the contrast black roof that the higher LR trims get, and steel wheels with full covers instead of alloys. From a distance on Kathmandu's roads, most people won't tell the difference — and that's exactly the point of an entry trim done right.

The cabin feels slightly more basic — a smaller infotainment screen than the XZ+ Tech Lux's 10.25-inch unit, fabric seats (same as the higher trim, so no loss there), and the absence of the sunroof. But the fundamentals — the flat-bottom steering wheel, the cooled glovebox, the height-adjustable driver seat — are all present, which matters more for daily usability than the sunroof ever will.

This is the section where the LR XT's value proposition becomes obvious: it's running the exact same 48 kW PMSM motor producing 65.3 PS and 114 Nm of torque as the XZ+ Tech Lux. Nothing is detuned for the lower trim.

Kathmandu Valley commute:

The instant-torque experience we praised in the XZ+ Tech Lux is fully present here. Pulling away from the Koteshwor signal, merging onto Ring Road from a service lane, threading through Ratnapark traffic — the LR XT delivers exactly the same smooth, immediate power delivery. If you're buying this car purely to drive, rather than to be entertained by a touchscreen, you're getting 100% of the driving experience for roughly 92% of the price.

Kathmandu to Pokhara — highway behaviour:

On the Prithvi Highway, the LR XT cruised at 70-80 km/h with the same quiet, composed character we experienced in the higher trim. The 120 km/h top speed and 5.7-second 0-60 km/h figure are identical specs, and they felt identical on the road — unsurprising, since it's the same drivetrain in the same body.

City handling:

At an identical 1235 kg kerb weight, the LR XT handles Kathmandu's roads exactly as composed as the XZ+ Tech Lux. The lower center of gravity from the battery pack gives it the same settled, planted feel through corners that distinguishes the Tiago.ev from its petrol sibling.

The 5.1-metre turning radius remains on the larger side — the same caveat applies for tight U-turns in Patan or Thamel-area lanes.

Kathmandu-Pokhara — highway and ghat sections:

Through the Mugling stretch, the suspension setup — independent McPherson strut front, twist-beam rear — absorbed the winding ghat roads the same way it did in our XZ+ Tech Lux test. The 4-level regenerative braking system is present on the LR XT too, so the downhill energy recovery and reduced brake reliance through the descents work identically.

Steel wheels vs alloys:

The one tangible difference: steel wheels with covers instead of alloys. We didn't notice a meaningful difference in ride quality or handling feel during testing — the tyre size (175/65 R14) is identical, and the difference is largely cosmetic and a small weight consideration that doesn't show up in everyday driving.

Identical setup to the XZ+ Tech Lux: front disc, rear drum, ABS with EBD, and the same 4-level regenerative braking.

City and highway braking:

Performance was indistinguishable from our higher-trim test — confident front disc braking in traffic, ABS intervening cleanly on a couple of occasions during the Pokhara run when traffic ahead braked suddenly on the highway. The regen braking again did much of the deceleration work in daily driving, reducing reliance on the pedal.

This is the section that matters most, and the good news is simple: the LR XT shares the exact same 24 kWh battery and motor as the XZ+ Tech Lux, so the range figures are identical.

Just as with the higher trim, the Kathmandu-to-Pokhara run — valley roads to the highway, sustained 70-80 km/h on the Prithvi Highway, climbing and descending through Mugling — delivered almost exactly the official 205 km C75 figure on a full charge.

Our measured range by condition:

For a Kathmandu Valley office commuter doing 25-30 km a day round trip, this means roughly 6-7 days of driving per full charge — identical to the XZ+ Tech Lux, because the range-determining components are unchanged.

Running cost comparison:

Same as the higher trim — a full 24 kWh charge costs roughly Rs 200-300 depending on electricity tariffs, versus approximately Rs 2,460 in petrol for the same 205 km in a typical hatchback at 15 km/l.

This is where the LR XT and XZ+ Tech Lux genuinely diverge, and where buyers need to decide what matters to them.

What the LR XT has: projector LED headlamps with DRLs, digital instrument cluster, a touchscreen infotainment unit (smaller than the XZ+ Tech Lux's 10.25-inch), automatic climate control, USB charging, keyless entry, flat-bottom steering wheel, cooled glovebox, rear wiper with demister, and height-adjustable driver seat.

What it doesn't have, compared to the XZ+ Tech Lux: no cruise control, no Android Auto/Apple CarPlay (confirm with dealer, as this varies by exact configuration), alloy wheels swapped for steel with covers, etc.

Does this matter day-to-day? For our Kathmandu Valley commute testing, the absence of cruise control was barely noticeable — valley traffic rarely allows sustained cruising anyway. On the Pokhara highway run, cruise control's absence was felt more on the flatter Prithvi Highway stretches, where the higher trim let the driver relax slightly more on the return leg.

The LR XT's practicality profile for Kathmandu Valley daily use is essentially identical to the XZ+ Tech Lux, because the things that determine practicality — range, charging time, dimensions, boot space — are unchanged.

Daily office commute: Exactly as strong a use case as the higher trim. Overnight home charging (8.7 hours), valley commutes well within range, no meaningful compromise versus the pricier variant for this specific use.

Weekend errands and family use: Same 240-litre boot, same dimensions — tight for longer trips with multiple passengers and luggage, fine for daily errands.

Intercity travel (Kathmandu-Pokhara): Our test confirms the LR XT delivers the same 205 km real-world range as the higher trim, making the Kathmandu-Pokhara route equally achievable on a single charge, with the same recommendation to charge in Pokhara before the return leg.

Hill driving: Identical motor and torque output means the climbing sections through Mugling felt exactly the same — relaxed, consistent pulling power with no perceptible difference from the XZ+ Tech Lux.

Identical to the XZ+ Tech Lux — same minimal EV maintenance profile (no engine oil, air filter, spark plugs, or clutch), and the same warranty coverage.

The 8-year battery and motor warranty applies equally to the LR XT, which is significant — buyers aren't sacrificing any long-term peace of mind by choosing the lower trim.

Service network: Same Sipradi Trading service centers handle both trims.

Ex-showroom price: Rs 27,49,000

This is roughly Rs 2,50,000 less than the XZ+ Tech Lux's Rs 29,99,000 — for the same battery, motor, range, charging speed, and warranty. The difference buys the XZ+ Tech Lux's sunroof, cruise control, larger touchscreen with smartphone connectivity, alloy wheels.

On-road cost estimate: Add registration, insurance, and road tax — total on-road cost in Kathmandu for the LR XT is approximately Rs 29,00,000–30,00,000 depending on current rates.

Value assessment: For buyers whose primary concern is daily Kathmandu Valley commuting and occasional trips to Pokhara, the LR XT delivers the entire driving experience that matters — range, power, charging speed — at a meaningfully lower price. The XZ+ Tech Lux's extras are genuinely nice-to-haves rather than need-to-haves for this use case.

After running the LR XT through the same two-week Kathmandu Valley routine and the same Kathmandu-to-Pokhara round trip as the XZ+ Tech Lux, the conclusion is straightforward: if your priority is the EV experience itself — range, power, charging, running cost — rather than the feature list, the LR XT delivers all of it for Rs 2,50,000 less.

The Kathmandu-Pokhara test result was identical: 205 km claimed, 205 km achieved. That's the most important number for anyone considering this car for both daily valley use and occasional longer trips, and the LR XT proves it just as convincingly as the pricier trim.

Buy the Tata Tiago.ev LR XT if:
